To me, it's still amazing that we as photographers can capture something, sometimes perhaps ordinary or mundane, and it can take on an otherworldly appearance. The forces of nature here on earth often create a view of our world that seems quite ethereal. Look around the nature galleries on dA and you'll see what I mean. The right lighting conditions, paired with water, fog, mist, or color can transform the ordinary into something extraordinary.

I want to share with you a few pieces that I think represent this "ethereal" quality that photography can sometimes take on. Think about not only the photos, but also the long hikes, sleep deprivation, and precarious situations that these photographers have gone through just to share these images with us! I am often amazed at some of the stories I read or hear from my friends, and how many close calls there are with equipment, or worse, their own safety. Their efforts should be appreciated and applauded.
